Description
Here is a beautiful, vintage, made in Japan Canon rangefinder camera in very good condition.  It has an interchangeable Serenar f:1.9 50mm lens, which has no visible scratches or fogging and looks to be in great shape. I shone a bright light through it and it looked very clean and unblemished. The aperture leaves also look very clean, no visible rust or oil.  The lens has 'Canon Camera Co.' and the number 37750 inscribed around the rim. The various rings around the lens turn smoothly and are in excellent shape as well. Various other dials/levers all seem to operate properly, though I don't know what many of them do (not being a vintage camera expert).  I tried the shutter at different speeds and it seems to fire properly, though I have not tested the accuracy of the speed with any measuring equipment. The focusing is clear and bright when viewed through the viewfinder. The rest of the body is also in very good condition, especially given its age (I believe this is an early 1950s-era camera?). There are only minor marks here and there that really do not mar the appearance of the camera at all, as far as I can tell.  The top of the camera is very nice and clean (see pictures), and has the number 40859 inscribed on it, along with the maker's name.  The machining and feel of the knobs, levers, etc. is exquisite, and very similar to Leicas, Rolleiflex and similar German cameras of the era.  This is a gorgeous, highly-collectible and useable example of this beautiful camera, and it wouldbe  a great addition to any collection. The camera comes in its original leather case which is in very decent shape. The protruding part of the case that covers the lens is coming unattached and will need to be glued/sewn back on. There is a metal plaque with a previous owner's name engraved beautifully in old English script.  The camera currently has a thin plastic strap as shown in the picture. I don't believe this is original, but I could be wrong.   Also included are something called an 'Auto Up' (This is the item that has the long rectangular piece attached to it, as as shown in the pictures), and a wide angle lens and accompanying eyepiece. The Auto Up is in a leather case that has 'Canon Auto Up 40" - 22" for Serenar 50mm f: 1.9. The Auto Up case is in excellent condition. The device itself seems in very good condition too. When I shone a high-intensity light through the circular lens, it seemed to have some light haze/fogging but this is not visible without the bright light. The rectangular glass piece attached to it also has some marks that almost look like water stains but I can't be sure. I did not want to damage anything so I haven't really tried to remove these. The wide angle lens is in its own leather case, which is likewise in very good condition. On the top is inscribed ' Canon Serenar Wide Angle Lens 35mm f:3.2.' The small attachment in the picture above is the eyepiece for the wide angle lens, and it mounts on the flash shoe. The lens itself is a heavy piece that is in very good condition. The aperture leaves are clean and functional, and the focusing and aperture setting rings are smooth and precise. The front of the lens is inscribed 'Serenar f:3.2 35mm Canon Camera Co. No. 67389.  The lens seems to have a few dust flecks on the inner element (only noticeable under high-intensity light). The back of the lens has a protective aluminum cover screwed on which of course is easily removable in order to mount the lens. Since I'm not an expert and have never used this camera, I don't know how to operate it.  Hence, this camera is being sold as-is.  Please ask questions before bidding.I've tried to describe everything as accurately as I can.
