Three of the caption areas are missing and some have been torn.2 pages (16 can be displayed - front and back) cut out for 2" x 3 1/4" photos - 4 to a page.  The edge of the cut-out for the picture is gold. It was developed by the Hyatt brothers in 1869, and was the 1st synthetic plastic ever produced.  It was invented to replace Ivory and to stop the senseless killing of elephants for their tusks.  The Victorians used it widely for jewelry, dresser boxes, glove boxes, collar boxes (gentleman wore highly starched detachable collars for their shirts), dresser accessories ( combs, brushes, etc.) and of course for photo albums.  The Victorians embellished these items with beautiful designs and today's collectors highly prize the pristine examples of this early artwork.  Payment is due within 7 days of auction end.
