The cover is a deeply impressed hand tooled and colored depiction of Don Quixote, lance in hand, and his squire Sancho on horseback and heading toward the windmills he intends to do battle with. The album is in EXCELLENT condition.  The leather is soft and pliable with no scratches or worn spots and all the whipping is intact although there are three or four stitches that are worn on the surface. It bears no markings so I can’t tell you it origin but if I had to guess I would say Southern Europe, perhaps Spain or Italy .  I found it on a recent trip to Northern France but I think the pictures mounted inside may be from the Netherlands . Just a guess, but I think I recognize a Church in Amsterdam .  Most of the pictures, nineteen in all, are cabinet photos and in excellent condition.  It measures 14 inches wide by 9 ¾ inches high by 2 inches deep.  The album has thirty eight heavy weight black mounting pages separated by onion skin protective sheets and there are two inside cover pages of heavy cardstock.  The inside of the cover is covered in maroon sateen.A wonderful old album of outstanding craftsmanship that displays beautifully!!!
