Description
This auction includes rare Leitz Leica pieces. The first is the very rare Leitz Wetzlar 4 notch stereoly. The stereoly is a rare item rated R6 on a rarity scale in the Hove collectors book. The 4 notch version is even rarer. R6 means it is very rare with a possible availability of once in 2 years. This device consists of a beam splitter and a support arm to secure it to the camera accessory shoe. This is a 1939 production of the stereoly, serial number 2987, which features a Leica type viewfinder. It has four notches on the arm. It is believed, the fourth notch was provided to accommodate the prism when used with a Leica IIIB. It was also placed to allow adjustment of the prism when it is used in stereo projection. The Leica stereoly attachment splits the image before the rays of light enter the lens. The film again records two upright stereo images 18x24mm side by side on the standard 24x36mm frame. It attaches to the Leica II, III, or IIIB cameras. It is in excellent+ condition. A very later, very rare version. The second rare piece included in this auction, rated an R8 in the Hove book, meaning it is an exhibition item with a possible availability of once in 5 years, is the Leitz Polar. This is an accessory equipment for projecting stereo transparencies using a Leitz VIII-S projector and the stereoly. It consists of two Polaroid filter (somewhat deteriorated) in a special mount that allows it to be clipped to the stereoly attachment, and special bracket to attach the latter to the projector. The next rare item in this auction, catalogue appropriately coded specs, are 6 pairs of Polaroid viewing spectacles for 3-D viewing. The Hove collector's book rates these glasses R7. R7 indicates that it is exceptionally rare, with a possible availability of once in 3-5 years. All of the specs are in exc+ condition. This outfit is completed by the addition of the Leitz VIIIS projector. The Leitz VIIIS projector, circa 1937, is in exc+ condition. It is a 35mm, 2x2 inch slide projector that accepts interchangeable lenses and side attachments, which adds to its versatility. This projector is equippe with the head of a 135mm F/4.5 Hektor lens on a shor focusing mount, catalogue code ZOOAN., and a 5cm F/3.5 VAROB lens, with the condensors lens, one for 7.3-10cm and one for 10.5-15cm. and a slide carrier. The outfit comes in a fitted projector case. Although it seems original there are no Leitz markings on it. The combined Hove price for this very rare outfit totals in excess of $6,000.00.
