Description
This is a great ANTIQUE MAGIC LANTERN In my estimation it dates from around the late 19th Century, circa 1880, but please make up your own mind about this. The lantern measures approx 19 inches ( 480 mm) long ( with the lens retracted) and is made from lacquered tinplate and brass thoughout. It has a brass lens ensemble. consisting of a 4 inch condenser and a large brass bound projection lens with a rack and pinion focus (which operates smoothly). The instrument is complete with its wooden slide carriage, which moves freely, and in the hinged side door is a dark blue glass mounted window through which the lamp could be seen. The projection lens is in good condition, but the condenser has a crack on one side (visible in photo running from 3 to 5 o'clock) . The lantern comes with its original bulb holder and tinplate carrying case. This is a fine example of its type and it would make a great addition to any collection.
