Description
Another goodie! This is a Nikkor TC 50cm F/5 Nikon Rangefinder lens in excellent condition. Specs: introduced: September 1952; apertures: f5.0-f45; angle of view: 5 degrees; elements: 3; foc. range: 25 ft to infinity; filter size: 110mm; weight: 19 pounds; original price: $550.00; quantity: approx 300. According to the Nikon Rangefinder book: "In September, 1952, Nikon announced the second lens made for their reflex housing. They doubled the focal length of the 250mm lens and came up with the truly massive 500mm f5.0 Nikkor-T. This cannon weighs 19 pounds and, with hood attached, measured nearly three feet long, and would reign as the largest RF Nikkor until the release of the 1000mm f6.3 Mirror lens in 1960. Because of its size, limited use, and very high price for the times, it would remain a low production item and was listed in Nikon price sheets until at least 1961. The barrel is finished in gloss black with a huge, centrally mounted, tripod collar finished in black crinkle paint. The base of the tripod socket is almost four inches across. At the top was a locking clamp that, when loosened, allows the entire lens along with the housing and camera, to rotate through 360 degrees. The barrel consists of some aluminium and a great deal of brass, and even the shade weighs nearly a pound. The front lens cap is made of a very heavy gauge aluminium that appears almost one-eighth inch thick. So massive was this lens that it is supplied with its own custom hardwood box with two keylocks and a large carrying handle, all of which adds up to a total weight of nearly thirty pounds." Serial numbers for this lens range from 647000 to a high of 647248. This lens has a low serial number of 647034. It is supplied with a red filter. The barrel has a few small scratches on it. The lens is clean and clear with no fungus or cleaning marks. The focus is smooth. The pre-set aperture works properly. Original wood case has wear with scratches, scrapes and rub marks but is structurally sound. It has its carrying handle. The wrinkle finish tripod mount shows wear. Included is the original sunshade and the Nippon Kogaku Tokyo logo lenscap. This is for the Nikon collector as there were not many produced with fewer remaining and even much less being offered.
