Description
rodsager.com Original Celestron C8 from 1960s This is is a telescope that has tremendous collector value as well as being quite useful. Please understand that this scope is not just another C8. The scope was made back when Celestron was still building much of their equipment by hand in a small Torrance, CA factory. The serial # is 510 hand stamped in the Celestron ID Plate mounted to the motor base. I just received an email from Celestron support saying the scope was from the 60s era so I edited the content of this listing to reflect that. The telescope comes with the original 1-1/4 inch star diagonal and a Celestron Japanese 1-1/4 inch 25mm eyepiece. The scope includes the solar filter for solar viewing and the original hand typed instruction manual with hand drawn illustrations and handwritten operational notes! I have all of the original equipment except the finder scope and trunk case, I do have the finder scope bracket oddly enough. The motor base is mounted on an equatorial type mount that can be polar aligned for photography and tracking. The tripod is included and has a Celestron 12 volt AC/DC power unit attached so you can run the scope motor off the car battery or AC power. This scope is old and some of the equipment shows wear but everything works fine! The scope is also equipped with power controls for Azimuth and Focus which keeps things smooth. The optics are in excellent condition and do not appear to need collimation. I just used the scope on Saturday night on Andromeda and the Moon. I am the second owner and purchased it in 1993. They just don't build equipment like this anymore! Bid today and own a fantastic, quality and precision telescope that was nearly all hand built. I will ship this item but there will be a substantial handling charge perhaps as much as $40 due to the complexity of properly packaging the item for safe shipment. I will require that insurance for the purchase price be including in the shipping charge. The scope weighs about 40lbs total. Local pickup preffered, will consider delivering in Southwest Washington or Portland Oregon. PayPal is the preferred payment. No Personal Checks.
