I often receive questions asking about A* lenses and which bodies they work with so I have added this section to my A* series lens auctions. The A* series lenses are manual focus (MF) lenses that are compatible with all Pentax K-Mount bodies. They work perfectly on both K-Mount film and digital SLR bodies. Perhaps the best way to think of Pentax's A* series lenses is that they work like auto focus lenses that have been set to manual focus mode. Everything is automatic except the focus. You use these lenses exactly the same way as all other K-Mount lenses, just the focusing needs to be done manually. The A* series lenses are among the finest that Pentax has ever made. Construction quality is excellent and the optics are superb. This lens produces stunning photos, you will not be disappointed! Optics and Mechanics(Back to Top / Jump to Photos) Glass: Very Good. No haze, fungus, cleaning marks. There is a thin scratch in the coating near the outside edge of the front element. I guarantee that this scratch in no way affects images taken with this lens. There are no problems with this lens. Photos of the glass are available in the offsite photo collection. Mechanics: Perfect! Focusing is smooth and well damped. The aperture ring clicks cleanly from stop to stop. The aperture blades are clean, oil-free, and snappy. There are no problems with this lens. Lens Mount: Excellent! Cosmetics(Back to Top / Jump to Photos) Barrel: Excellent! A few minor cosmetic marks but no large marks or damage. The hood slides out smoothly and locks into place without trouble. Tripod Foot: Excellent! A few cosmetic marks no signs of heavy use and certainly no damage. No problems with the mounting threads.
