Description
I am selling one of my trusty Panasonic Varicams. This is the H model, which is the newest model of the camera (and the last one I bought). The H is a big improvement over the F, especially when it comes to noise in the blacks. The reason that I bought the H was that I noticed my HDX900 was less noisy than my older Varicam F, that is, until Panasonic brought out the H. Mind you, the HDX900 is a very nice camera for the money, but the Varicam H is noticeably better in the blacks and in color reproduction in general, especially the reds. The Varicam is arguably the best camera out there for skin tones and earth tones, which is why it is so popular with talent and so great for documentary work. The camera I am selling, as you can see from the photographs, looks new. It seems to also be dead pixel free. I could find no marks on it except maybe a little scuff on the handle. It also has really low hours. Operation 40x10 (400), Drum 14x10 (140!), Threading 400x10 (the hours that matters the most are the drum hours, which is how much tape has gone through the heads). I have seen B stock cameras with a lot more use than this. It is out of the factory's one year warranty, (I purchased it from Birns & Sawyer in May 2006 for $59,740, copy of the receipt will be included in the box) but I haven't had any issues with it whatsoever, and my other Varicam is older and has been issue free also. I am selling the body, viewfinder and camera mic only, all in it's original packing. The pictures show also a Canon 8x5.5 Cine Style HD lens, which is a perfect match for this camera, and the best lens I found out there for it, and a Chrosziel rod support system. Both these items are available at an additional $15,000 if you buy the camera. Otherwise, the lens is available on it's own for $16,000. It is a great HD lens, it does not breathe or ramp at all, and it is a current lens. People often confuse it with Canon's early HD lenses which also had the shorter range (8x). This lens has the shorter range on purpose, it is essentially the 11x4.7, but they cut out the corners where the 11x performs less than ideally, to make this sweet little number. This is the newest model Canon has released of their Cine Style High Definition zooms. The 11x4.7 is an older model, and so is the 21x7.5. Now, for those that are thinking of getting an HDX900, that is a really good camera for the money, but for the price I am selling this camera, which is very close to what a new HDX900 sells for, you are getting a lot more for your money: CineGama, shutter speed in degrees, and other cinematography oriented features (which are not available on the HDX), variable speeds from 1-60 frames per second (which are great for music videos, the HDX does 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60, that's it) and really, just a better picture. Not to tell you your business, but a Varicam rents for more money than a HDX900, but if you have a client that has HDX900 budget, you can still rent it for that too since you paid the same as a new HDX. There are a lot of Varicam Fs out there in the used market, but they are not as good. The H makes a big difference. I have not seen a Varicam H on ebay yet. I paid close to 60 thousand just over 2 years ago. I am selling it for less than half. My loss if your gain. Please feel free to contact me with questions, and you can read more about my company if you visit my page: lennywood.com Thanks you for your visit. PS If you choose to do paypal we need to add the percentage they charge me to the total, otherwise, I can't afford to sell it this low. (International buyers: i can ship international through a broker, for an extra fee of $500 that they charge me, plus actual shipping costs) PPS For someone trying to build a full production package, here is an even better deal: Varicam H (140 hours) with viewfinder, Canon 8x5.5 Cine Style HD zoom, Chrosziel Compact 4x5.6 Matte Box with Eyebrow, Chrosziel One Sided Follow Focus, Chrosziel Double Handle Set with camera start/stop, Custom hard case for all the Chrosziel stuff, Panasonic AJ-EC3P paint box for Varicam with cable, Panasonic Varicam soft case that will fit camera with matte box. (this is the complete package that i used with this camera) I will accept $47,500 (plus shipping). Remember, this camera new lists for $45,000 plus $3,700 for the viewfinder, my camera has only 140 hours more than a new camera. The other stuff here adds to over $35,000 new. It's a good deal, no?
