I charged it once to make sure it would take a charge, and am selling it as new. I have no idea how old it is, but it charged right up, so I am assuming that it will function as new. The engineers at Nikon figured out a way to squeeze a ninth battery cell into this battery and that is why it gives you the maximum 8 frames per second that the F5 is capable of, instead of the lower FPS that you get with the 8 AA batteries in the optional battery tray.
