This will be your most common way of using this system. When would I use the 8" Reflector?  This will provide a harder light that will cast shadows. You use these shadows to create definition in your subjects and for a more dramatic lighting effect. When would I use an umbrella?  Multi-Purpose umbrellas provide some softening effect when shooting through the translucent material or to bounce the light off of when using the reflective surface of the umbrella. They are popular for "Run & Gun" on the go shooting because of their very quick set up. What is the purpose of the dimmer knob?  The ability to dim each light allows you to set up various lighting ratios. You may want one side of a subject lit with lots of light then the other a subdued light. The dimmer knob(s) allow for all sorts of creative control over your imaging be it, still, film, or video. Why an inner scrim?  The inner scrim also provides for additional shaping of your light. You can use it with or without the outer scrim. You will notice that the inner scrim allows some harder light to come from around the scrim.
