Description
I am offering a rare 16mm film that is entitled - Rosey Grier: The Courage to Be Me. This film is essentially the biography of Rosey - who was one of the all time great defensive linemen in the NFL. Rosey was born on July 14, 1932 and spent his early years in Cuthbert, GA. His family eventually moved to New Jersey where Rosey became a football star at Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, NJ. Rosey went on to become an All American at Penn State and great NFL player with the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams (this film contains a good deal of footage of Rosey and his team-mates on both the Giants and Rams). Rosey was a shy child, and this film depicts his rise from that painful problem through his adulthood. Rosey indicates that it was during the 1968 presidential campaign of Robert Kennedy where this problem was overcome. Kennedy and Rosey had become close friends, and Rosey spoke on Kennedy's behalf on several occasions. Rosey was with Kennedy in Los Angeles when he was shot in 1968, and it was Rosey who dis-armed Sirhan Sirhan (literally - as Rosey broke Sirhan's arm in the process). After Rosey's football career ended due to an achilles injury, he became a star of the big and small screen; an entertainer; a singer; and a minister. This film is in excellent condtion - great color and sound. There is no sprocket damage, no vinegar smell, and no splices were found on my rewind inspection. The film has a running time of about 25 minutes, and it is wound on the 12" metal Goldberg film reel pictured (and a Goldberg metal can is also included). Note that packaging, USPS Priority Mail shipping, delivery confirmation and insurance will run an additional $9.95.
